The Third Faculty of Medicine (3FM) is part of the most traditional university in Central Europe, Charles University in Prague. Since 1991/92, the faculty has been offering a fully English-language medical degree programme - parallel to the Czech-language course
As one of five medical faculties, the Third Medical Faculty (3MF KU) attaches particular importance to:

General Medicine study programme (MUDr.)
Study programme: Human medicine (dentistry is not taught here)
Type of study: Full-time
Duration: 6 years (12 semesters)
Degree: MD or MUDr. (Doctor of Medicine)
Start year of English teaching: 1991/92, constant expansion since then
Start: Winter semester (September or October)
In addition to the undergraduate curriculum, Master's and doctoral programmes are also offered for medical graduates.
Structure of the curriculum - The 3 study cycles
Medical training is structured in three cycles:
1st cycle: Fundamentals of Biomedical Sciences (1st - 2nd year)
Modules such as "Structure and Function of Human Body", Genetics, Biophysics
Additional courses e.g. medical Latin and scientific methodology
2nd cycle: Fundamentals of clinical medicine (3rd-4th year)
Topics include clinical propaedeutics, basic problems and elective modules
3rd cycle: Clinical preparation (5th-6th year):
Rotations in internal medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Preventive Medicine
Languages & interaction with patients
English is the sole language of instruction throughout the programme. However, Czech lessons are integrated into the first two years. By the end of the second year, students must have a level of Czech in order to be able to communicate with patients and hospital staff.
Study costs & financing
The tuition fees at 3 FM are in the middle segment.
Tuition fees: CZK 420,000 per year (approx. € 17,000) for English-language degree programmes, including Czech courses.
Payment modalities: Bank transfer in CZK, EUR or USD; payment in instalments is possible.

Admission procedure & application
Firstly, you apply online for one of the medical study places at 3FM in Prague.
You then have to wait for the invitation to the entrance exam. The centrepiece is the entrance exam: a multiple-choice test focusing on biology, chemistry and physics that tests your scientific understanding. Normally there is no interview at 3FM - the test is the deciding factor.
After participating, you must submit various documents. It is important that your documentation is complete and well organised:
School leaving certificate with details of subjects/grades (certified translation)
Letter of motivation
Copy of identity card/passport
Any letters of recommendation
Completed application form
These documents must be submitted by post. Apply for and then pay the fee of CZK 960 for recognition of the school-leaving certificate.
A registration fee of CZK 910 is then due on admission.
